Edit**I hit 36 mph going downhill and I had an issue and support helped me and got back to me on the WEEKEND! Amazing
I purchased this bike for commuting from a rural area to the city. The ride is mostly level and downhill on the ride in, but that makes the ride home extremely difficult. I bought the bike with the hope that it would make the steep hills more doable. The 21 gears, as opposed to 7 on many other e-bikes, was a definite selling point. To be honest, I was concerned at first. The bike has a 350 watt motor, lower power than the listing stated. When I tried it out on a moderate hill, the bike was not able to climb it from a standstill while using throttle only. I wasn't encouraged. But then I started pedaling, and it went really easily. So, I gained some confidence.
Time for the real test. I rode the bike to work without any pedal assist or throttle. The 21 speeds worked well and the bike rode very similar to my normal mountain bike. On the ride home, I engaged the pedal assist and attempted the hills. These hills are steep enough that on a normal bike I can walk the bike up faster than I can pedal it. With pedal assist I was able to maintain 7+ miles per hour and didn't feel overworked during the climb. Happily, the bike did exactly what I wanted it to do.
On a side note, due to the shape of the frame and the size of the battery, there is not a lot of space for a water bottle. I had to put a holder on top of the cross bar. It works, but my pants do rub on the bottle a little. I was able to purchase a triangular tool set/pouch that fit nicely into the frame. I added a rack and saddle bags so I don't need to wear a backpack while riding.
Overall, this was a good purchase. I am happy with the functionality and cost. Now, I'll just have to wait and see how it lasts over time.
